We Welcome You to "The City of Brotherly Love"!

There is an array of exciting happenings and events taking place on a weekly basis! Our award winning concierge, Fran has everything you need to know to ensure a successful and enjoyable trip to Philadelphia. With Sonesta Philadelphia being centrally located on 18th & Market Streets, the vast majority of restaurants, attractions, museums, sporting events and festivals are a mere few minutes walk or cab ride away.

For questions, please call the hotel direct at 1.215.561.7500 or email FNachman@sonesta.com.

Philadelphia born and raised, Fran’s career path has traveled many routes, from film production to business ownership, and for the past twelve years, as a hotel concierge. In 2012 Fran was honored to win the Key to the City award, given to the city’s top tourism professional. In 2013 she realized one of her goals when she became a member of Les Clefs d’Or, the international association of hotel concierges. Since 2011 Fran has served on the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Area Concierge Association in several positions, from Philanthropic Director, Treasurer, three terms as President, and for the last three years as Director of Events. Fran feels fortunate to go to work at the Sonesta each day with the potential to create amazing memories for our guests.

What are some of your favorite things to do in Philadelphia?

When the weather warms up, the city offers wonderful outdoor spaces. Along the Delaware River, Spruce Street Harbor Park is a great spot to relax in a hammock or grab a bite to eat and a beverage. In Fairmount Park, Shofuso Japanese House and Garden will transport you to Japan. Parks on Tap travels to a different local park each week for food and local brews. A portion of the profits benefits the Philadelphia Department of Recreation.

Mural Arts Philadelphia has created over 3500 murals, the most in the country. A member of the concierge team would be happy to provide a mural walking or trolley tour. The Sonesta is the site of the tallest one at 22 stories! Walk across the street for a great view.

Please stop at the concierge desk for our weekly event guide. The Philadelphia Orchestra performs year-round. Attend a concert at The Met Philadelphia or Wells Fargo Center, showcasing the top names in the industry. For jazz, visit South, Chris’ Jazz Café, or Time. Enjoy a play at one of our local theaters. The Walnut Street Theater is the oldest in the country. Art lovers will enjoy First Fridays, where the art galleries in Old City remain open late each month. And the Philadelphia Museum of Art stays open until 8:45pm every Friday for Live After Five. Both the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Barnes offer “pay-what-you-wish” on the first Sunday of each month. For the sports fan, there is never a lack of options, with local representation for every major league sport.

What are your favorite restaurants?

For breakfast or lunch, visit Reading Terminal Market, one of the largest and oldest (opened in 1893) public markets. Parc, a French “bistro” on Rittenhouse Square, is a short walk from the hotel. It’s one of over twenty area restaurants owned by Stephen Starr, a James Beard award-winner. In 2009, after an earthquake devastated their town, Gran Caffe L’Aquila moved their entire operation from Abruzzi, Italy to Philadelphia. They are renowned for both their award-winning gelato (I can arrange for a free “flight”) and their coffee (they roast their own beans.) Enjoy dinner at one of our numerous area BYOB’s, such as Melograno and Audrey Claire. Foodies will find a treasure trove of options along East Passyunk Avenue. Two of my favorites are Sate Kampar and Fond. Of course, just steps from your room is Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse where you can enjoy one of their legendary steaks, located off of the lobby.

In the ever-changing world of restaurant openings and closings, museum exhibits, new plays and musical events, it is vital to have up-to-date information on what is happening in the city.  In addition to the websites for each theater company and concert venue, Fran uses many additional outlets to keep current, including:

Finally, as Director of Events for the Philadelphia Area Concierge Association, she schedules monthly meetings. During "round table" the members provide feedback on where they have been the previous month, including restaurants, plays, museums, etc. This is a great opportunity for networking!

We look forward to welcoming you to "The City of Brotherly Love"!
