SONESTA OCEAN POINT ANNOUNCES AN EXCLUSIVE GASTRONOMIC EXPERIENCE “A CHEFS NIGHT” PACKAGE FEATURING CULINARY CREATIONS AND EVENTS WITH SWEDEN’S LEADING CHEFS, MAY 24-26, 2016

ST. MAARTEN (February 2016) – Set on the most spectacular location on the westernmost point of St. Maarten, the all-inclusive, adults-only Sonesta Ocean Point Resort is hosting A Chefs Night, a prestigious culinary event founded by Swedish Chef Görgen Tidén and will be the first of its kind held in North America.

A package is being offered in conjunction with this exclusive series of culinary events including dinners designed by a team of acclaimed visiting Swedish Chefs, shopping excursions, cooking classes and more.

A Chefs Night was born of the notion that a gastronomic experience should be shared and enjoyed amongst family and friends. After a successful event in Sweden last year, Sonesta Ocean Point is bringing the Chefs Night concept to its tropical shores from May 24 – 26, 2016.

Sonesta Ocean Point will offer A Chefs Night package with exclusive culinary themed events and amenities including:

  • Dinner on May 24 and 26 showcasing the chef’s Scandinavian-French-Caribbean fusion culinary creations taking place at the resort’s premier restaurant Azul, that sits atop a cliff overlooking Maho Bay boasting sweeping views. St. Maarten-based Mix Italia will sponsor and provide a selection of Italian wines for the dinners.
  • Accommodations in a Junior Suite or higher room categories available upon request
  • Mingle with the Chefs pre-dinner receptions hosted at Ocean Point’s rooftop Sunset Lounge & Bar, perfect for cocktails and a chance to get to know the guest chefs A shopping tour with the chefs including an excursion to local St. Maarten markets to pick up fresh ingredients to be used in the evenings’ dinners
  • Chefs Cooking Class to learn how to master culinary techniques in a small, intimate group, followed by a lunch of guests’ own creations.

Participating Chefs include:

Görgen Tildén, the Founder of A Chef’s Night. Has worked around the globe from Corfu to Nice collaborating with Michelin-starred chefs such as Alain Llorca before settling back into his homeland of Sweden, where he runs his namesake Restaurant Görgen in Dalarna.

Fredrik Hedlund, chef de cuisine and partner of Lammet & Grisen in Sälen and Öland, Sweden, has competed in the Culinary Olympics and Culinary World Cup, where his team placed second in 2006 and 2010. He’s trained with some of the country’s top toques such as the much-lauded Daniel Berlin and Tommy Mllymäki.

Fredrik Borgskog, a pastry chef, has placed in numerous culinary competitions such as the Coupe du Monde de la Patisserie and the Nordic Pastry Cup. His tenure at the Grand Hotel under Mathias Dahlgren, who won the Bocuse d’Or in 1997, prepared him for opening his own bistro and pastry shop in partnership with his two brothers.

Christophe Buchet got his start at Eriks i Gamla Stan in Stockholm and Le Chevalet in Versailles, France after attending Stockholm Restaurant School. Since then, he’s cooked at no fewer than five Michelin-starred restaurants and is currently a chef at Sannas in Stockholm.

Fredrick Björlin’s cuisine is a modern take of traditional Nordic fare. His extensive experience includes stints at restaurants around Stockholm (Artipalag, Vassen) and cooking for the Nobel Prize Dinner. He’s currently the executive chef at Bobergsmatsal, Botanique & Nordiskakantinen.

Anna Björlin placed first in the Young Baker’s Sweden Championships and Young Baker’s European Championships in 2001, and has worked at a number of Stockholm’s leading bakeries, most recently Lidingö Bröd & Patisserie and Magnus Johansson Bageri.
