Fresh from the Farm to the Royal Sonesta's Round Table Luncheon - Wednesday June 18, 2014

Ever wondered what the term “locavore” meant or wanted to know where to buy the freshest seasonal products? We’re unearthing the answers at the Royal Sonesta’s Round Table Luncheon, on Wednesday June 18th at 12 Noon.
Just in time for the creole tomato season, three local experts will discuss the value of locally sourced foods within the Crescent City’s growing Farm-to-Table movement. Expand your food knowledge while enticing your palette as our expert culinary team presents an elegant three-course menu seeped in Louisiana offerings. Hosted by Margarita Bergen in the hotel’s elegant Fleur de Lis Suite, join us in toasting this “Farm-to-ROUND-Table” luncheon complete with plenty of champagne, darlings.
Elisa Munoz, Market Director for the Crescent City Farmers Market, will share her mission of providing the New Orleans community access to healthy local ingredients. A firm believer that public markets serve the public good, Munoz will expertly enlighten us on the benefits of farm-to-table practices.  
A self-proclaimed “locavore” by birthright from Chauvin, Louisiana, Chef Melissa Martin will discuss how her early immersion in fresh, seasonal ingredients has shaped her culinary philosophy. Martin guided young minds at Café Hope, worked under decorated chefs in California, and has nurtured ingredients from the garden to her customer’s plate. Currently, she offers Farm-to-Table Cajun Cuisine through her buzzworthy Mosquito Supper Club.’  
Then guests will get to hear from the new Executive Director of the French Market Corporation, Jon Smith. Former owner of Cork & Bottle Fine Wines and founder of the Mid-City Farmer’s Market, Smith will delve into his exciting vision to expand the corporation’s Farmer’s Market offerings.
Singer/songwriter Kara Klein, a native of Covington Louisiana who began composing at the age of eight, will provide the entertainment accompanied by Round Table’s resident pianist Jim Walpole.
The Royal Sonesta’s culinary team has prepared a stunning three-course spread chock full of fresh Louisiana ingredients. This culinary journey begins with Chappapeela Farms Duck Confit Tamales with Watermelon Salsa and Citrus Tossed Baby Rocket. Then the entrée features a duet of Louisiana Heritage Beef “French Quarter Strip” with Creole Country Andouille and Okra Ragout paired with Louisiana Crab and Crawfish Cheesecake accompanied with Liuzza Farms Summer Squash Medley and Herbed “Jazzmen” Rice Grits. For Dessert, enjoy Executive Pastry Chef Solandie Exantus’ Pomegranates Catalane and Compressed Clementine with Espresso Chocolate Crumble and Crème Chantilly.
