Play Hour to Round’ Midnight It’s All Happening at the Playhouse

New Orleans - With live jazz music seven nights a week, Burlesque shows, late night brass bands, and ‘Happy Hour’ specials, there’s always something exciting happening at Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse. The hip new jazz club on Bourbon Street has just extended Playhouse hours to entice new audiences to sample some of the finest jazz on the planet.

The Playhouse is redefining happy hour every Wednesday through Friday from 5 pm to 8 pm with drink specials, new jazz offerings, and plenty of networking opportunities for organizations that support the local community. Swing to the tunes of Kermit Ruffins every Wednesday or mix it up with Roman Skakun on the vibes each Thursday. In keeping with the jazz piano tradition, Fridays feature The Professor Jazz Piano Series featuring, Joe Krown.

With late night offerings ‘Round Midnight’ till 2 am, Fridays just got a whole lot sexier. Trixie Minx of Fleur De Tease and trumpeter Leon “Kid Chocolate” Brown are uniting contemporary Burlesque with classic jazz in the club’s presentation of ‘Burlesque Ballroom.’ “With the Burlesque show we’re turning back the clock to the era where jazz met Burlesque on Bourbon Street, circa 1950,” explains Irvin Mayfield. “By pairing Trixie Minx with Leon Brown, we have created an intimate, sexy, and jazzy after-hours destination for mature audiences,” continues Mayfield. The burlesque performers use the entire room as their stage and include the audience as part of the show. Times-Picayune contributing writer, Alison Fensterstock, describes the experience in a recent article titled The Weekly Grind. “Remember Jessica Rabbit’s jaw-dropping crawl through the nightclub in ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’ It’s kind of like that,” explains Fensterstock. The beat goes on late into the night with live Brass Bands Jams every Saturday from Midnight to 2 pm. Late night sets feature authentic brass bands like the Soul Rebels, Free Agents, or the Hot 8 Brass Band. Visitors and locals will be brought to their feet with contemporary rhythms and unique dance beats. Every Saturday, ‘Round Midnight’ audiences will have the opportunity to experience a New Orleans’ tradition with world-renowned Brass Band entertainment.
