Royal Sonesta Harbor Court Earns TAG Certification

The Royal Sonesta Harbor Court Baltimore has been awarded TAG certification as a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) accepting facility, hotel officials announced today. TAG certification is awarded to organizations that are LGBT-friendly in their employment policies, services and support to the LGBT community. The AAA Four-Diamond hotel recently earned the certification as Maryland voters approved the same-sex marriage law late last year.
“We have always recognized the LGBT community at this hotel, but this makes it official,” said David Kohlasch, general manager at the Royal Sonesta Harbor Court Baltimore. “We are proud of our TAG certification as it shows without question our commitment to provide equality for all of our wonderful employees and our loyal guests. We have already received several wedding inquiries from same-sex couples seeking to get married from our location overlooking the Inner Harbor.”

By law, same-sex marriages were approved to begin in Maryland after January 1, 2013.
In order to become TAG certified, hotels must meet several qualifications including: the possession, or implementation of a non-discrimination policy; providing equal administration of personnel benefits; ongoing diversity training; and community support of the LGBT community, among other policies.
The Royal Sonesta Harbor Court Baltimore is in the midst of updating its website to include information about the TAG certification and to inform same-sex couples about wedding benefits and other services at the hotel.
Maryland has joined eight other states that support same sex marriage, including Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont and Washington; plus, the District of Columbia, and two Native American tribal jurisdictions located in Oregon and Washington.
