ROYAL SONESTA HOUSTON COUNTS DOWN TO JULY 25 RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS DAY

HOUSTON, TX – June 2015 – Over the past year, Houston businesswoman and philanthropist, Treveia Mccurdy, has made community goodwill her mission.  With a call to honor and reward some of the most deserving in our city – the individuals whose good deeds often do go unnoticed, Mccurdy hatched a plan to create an annual celebration of caring.

With a City Proclamation in hand, Mccurdy is moving towards the first official Random Act of Kindness Day (www.houstonrakday.com) on July 25, which she hopes will engage businesses, schools, churches, individuals and organizations to look beyond their differences and work together to deliver a message of happiness and hope by following the lead of those who have impacted change with far fewer resources.

According to Mccurdy, “By lending a unified hand, I know we can immediately impact some of the more obvious issues of violence and poverty through monetary support, but I’m also drawn to large parts of our population that are struggling silently as a result of neglect, depression and the sorrow of losing loved ones.  As I know firsthand after the passing of two young sons and a brother to health issues, dollars are not always the solution to problems – sometimes all it takes is a little compassion and a thoughtful gesture – something all of us can easily afford.”

Impressed and impassioned by Mccurdy’s endeavor, a number of Houston area companies, some who have worked with her through her day job as the owner of IRUN Business and Personal Concierge Services, are stepping up to the plate to make a major mark with the inaugural initiative by surprise gifting those that keep on giving.  From grocery, clothing and furniture shopping trips, plus home repair projects and business start-up packages, to pastry deliveries thanking the teachers, firefighters, police offers and reports that serve the city in their everyday roles, there should be many smiling faces on July 25.

In addition to donations or sponsored items from Ann Miller Etiquette, COMPLETE, CRAVE Cupcakes, Gulfgate Dodge Chrysler Jeep, H-E-B, Hotel ZaZa, i10 Media, Macy’s, Randall’s, Sam's Limousine, Shipley Do-Nuts, Smallcakes Houston and Sprinkles Cupcakes, one special experience is meant to activate the community to assist in identifying the selfless Houstonians who deserve special recognition for their ongoing efforts.

Mike and Angela James help to kick off Random Act of Kindness Day on June 27.  The philanthropic power couple is being honored at a birthday celebration for the NBA star hosted by Music World Entertainment’s The Rice Mansion, a historic and recently renovated venue in Midtown.  Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Mike James Scholarship Foundation.
