Important Updates for Maryland Fleet Week - October 10-17, 2016

Royal Sonesta Harbor Court is anticipating the weeklong Fleet Week event which celebrates the rich naval traditions of the Chesapeake Bay and the contributions of Marylanders to the defense of the nation. This event will feature interactive activities, tours aboard Naval vessels, spectacular air shows, schooner races, educational outreach programs, live music, a Chesapeake inspired food area, and much more.

U.S. Navy and Canadian Navy vessels will be in port October 13-16 (viewing days) at the Inner Harbor, Fells Point and Locust Point. There will be a prelude of events beginning October 8 and the Blue Angels, along with other aviators, will be in the skies over Baltimore City, October 15 & 16.

Fleet week Festival

Royal Sonesta harbor Court would like to inform all our guest who will be joining us during this time that from October 13-16 (1:00-6:00pm) there will be a family friendly festival with exhibitors from maritime, military, cultural, history and heritage organizations. During these four days, there will be entertainment by local and U.S. Navy Bands at the Amphitheater and, on Saturday and Sunday, Chesapeake-inspired Maryland local eats & drinks.

Air Shows

Air Show Baltimore will take place over a two-and-a-half-hour period on October 15 and 16, featuring precision flight demonstrations from the U.S. Navy, Marines, Air Force,Coast Guard; the Royal Canadian Navy; the renowned Geico Skytypers; and an exciting aerobatic performance by Scott Francis Airshows. The featured act will be the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. The air show will take place over the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River. Air Show Baltimore is scheduled to start around 1:00 p.m. The air show will take place rain or shine unless there is very severe weather.

Baltimore Marathon

In addition to Fleet Week activities, on Saturday October 15, the running of the 16th Annual Baltimore Running Festival will take place throughout the Baltimore, including right in front of our Hotel. We understand the race may impact travel plans for a few hours on a fall Saturday, but we want you to be fully aware of some alternative routes and options, so you can prepare and enjoy all the festivities.

Traffic Modifications

During Maryland Fleet Week, you may experience a heavier volume of traffic due to the special events taking place throughout the city. Please be patient, check the website for updates and road closures, and strongly consider taking public transportation into downtown Baltimore.

Plan Your Visit! If you are driving to Baltimore, you will likely experience a heavier volume of traffic within the city due to large crowds. Alternatives include taking public transportation (MTA Busses or Light Rail), using the Charm City Circulator, riding bicycles, or hopping on water taxis to navigate in and around the Inner Harbor. And, "Use Your Feet to See the Fleet" so once you get downtown, consider walking to and from Locust Point, Fort McHenry and the Inner Harbor.

On Thursday, October 13, Friday, October 14 and Sunday, October 16, from 1 pm to 6pm - Take the Fleet Shuttle to U.S. Navy Ships in Locust Point (leave from Inner Harbor Visitor Center - 401 Light Street, Baltimore, MD 21202).

Specific closures and restrictions will be in effect on Saturday, October 15, as early as 12 a.m. and as late as 4 p.m. due to the Baltimore Running Festival/Marathon.

Parking

Guest staying at Royal Sonesta Harbor Court are highly encouraged to Valet park their vehicles upon arrival and walk or use public transportation during your stay. There are multiple public garages available around Baltimore City within walking distance of visiting ships and air show viewing areas. Parking will be VERY limited and restricted on Fort Avenue near Fort McHenry on October 15 and 16 due to the air show.

And, if you choose to park on the streets, please pay close attention to any and all parking restrictions throughout the city, as they vary from location to location. There will be strict enforcement of all parking and no stopping zones during Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show Baltimore.

During the Marathon, roadways around town and near the stadium will be closed prior to 8 am for the marathon & relay start. This will be further complicated by the half-marathon start at 9:45am. Light Rail will deliver riders to the festival, and provides free parking where parking is available. The Light Rail system will run every 30 min. beginning at 6 am coming South from Hunt Valley (50 min. ride) to the stadium and at 5 am coming North from Cromwell (26 min. ride) to the stadium.
