Make Your Season Bright at the Royal Sonesta New Orleans' 10th Annual Lighting of the Balconies
This year, plan to kick off the holiday season at Royal Sonesta New Orleans in the French Quarter. The iconic hotel’s beloved event, Lighting of the Balconies, is slated to take place at 300 Bourbon Street on Tuesday, December 1st at 6:00 p.m. Two young patients from Children’s Hospital will ceremoniously “flip the switch” to illuminate thousands of twinkling lights that adorn the property’s expansive wrought iron balconies. The event has evolved into one of the most popular local celebrations of the season. This year’s show is packed with plenty of surprises along with some great entertainment designed to kindle your holiday spirit. Serving as celebrity emcee will be Chriss Knight, co-host of WGNO/NOLA 38’s NOLA Marketplace. Knight is an award-winning journalist with more than a decade in the field of television. She also manages social media content for a variety of high profile businesses in the New Orleans area. Headlining the show will be the incomparable Pfister Sisters. Blending rich innovative Jazz vocals, Holley Bendtsen, Yvette Voelker and Debbie Davis have created a special holiday program that will have you tapping your feet. Inspired by the harmonies of the Boswell Sisters from the 1920’s, the Pfister Sisters have graced stages across the globe including New York’s Lincoln Center and Switzerland’s renowned Ascona Jazz Festival. Their performance at Lighting of Balconies will mark their second appearance at this event. In keeping with tradition, the show includes an appearance by members of the New Orleans Saintsations who will be joined by New Orleans Saints mascots Gumbo and Sir Saint. For the little ones, Santa will be on hand along with his other half, Mrs. Claus. Children’s Hospital chaplain Allen Mitchell will deliver a special invocation. Nine year-old Jasmine Spiller from Boutte, Louisiana and ten year-old Elise Ritter of Biloxi, Mississippi, will be the guests of honor who together light up the hotel’s impressive holiday display. This heartwarming community event is part of the hotel’s multi-layered philanthropic initiative that supports Children’s Hospital New Orleans. The program has been honored for its service with a proclamation from the City Council of New Orleans and is a reflection of the Sonesta Culture of Caring. The event is free and open to the public and all are welcome to join in the fun.
