Karl A. Bourne
A native of St Thomas, USVI, Karl A. Bourne, General Manager for Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort & Casino, is a veteran hotelier whose career has taken him across major hotel brands in the Caribbean and the east coast of the United States.
Bourne began his journey in the industry at a very young age, when he took a job in Manhattan’s Ritz Carlton right after he graduated high school. It was there he met Manager Len Siedel, who he credits with inspiring him to be the best at whatever he set out to accomplish in the hospitality business—and, to date, he has quite a list to his name.
Bourne joined Sonesta and moved to Sint Maarten after a two-year stint revamping the F&B department at Beaches Resort & Spa in Negril, Jamaica. He has occupied management positions since 1989 when he worked for the Hilton Walt Disney World Village, with ensuing experience at El Conquistador Resort & Country Club (Fajardo, Puerto Rico), Starwood Hotels & Resorts/Westin Resort (St. John, USVI), Marriott Hotels & Resorts (Orlando, Florida) and Wyndham Resorts International (St. Thomas, USVI), among others.
It was during his tenure in 2005-2007 as Chief Operating Office for Danfine Corporation in Orlando, Florida, a company with annual revenues of $105 million, that he began to focus on becoming General Manager of a major resort hotel.
Today, Bourne overseas the Food & Beverage and Rooms divisions of the Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort & Casino, as well as the front and back of house operations, the public areas and other guest facilities, including the privately-owned one- and two-bedroom condo units.
Bourne is a graduate of Penn Foster University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Hospitality and Tourism from GULL University. An avid fishing fanatic, on his days off you’ll find him angling on the high seas.
