The Gold Museum

The Gold Museum, offers a splendid presentation of more than 33,000 pieces of gold, emeralds and other precious materials crafted in the pre-Hispanic times. The Gold Museum is part of the Colombia's Republic Bank, and preserves and protects this fabulous cultural legacy. The most important museum of its kind anywhere in the world, presents the work of ancient people who believed gold is the materialization of life giving energy from the Father Sun.

Botero Museum

In 2000, Fernando Botero opened the doors of this museum by its name. He donated many of its own works, characterized by its corpulent protagonists, and a large quantity of its private collection that includes artists such as Picasso, Monet, Calder and Kooning (valued in more than 200 million dollars). This museum, located in a colonial house style, is a recommended stop.

National Museum

The National Museum conserves and divulges representative testimonies of the cultural values of the country. This collection conforms more than 20,000 objects, gathers samples of old traces by the presence of the man in Colombian territory -10.000 B.C.- , contains pieces related to the history, art and the native and afro-Colombian ethnography of the 20th century.

Museum of Modern Art

The building designed by the architect Rogelio Salmona, harbors the most complete collection of modern and contemporary pieces of Colombian art. It includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, and graphic designs of recognized Colombian artists as Fernando Botero, Alejandro Obregón, Enrique Grau, Edgar Negret, and Eduardo Ramírez Villamizar. It exposes an important sample of Latin-American artists.

Historical Sites

La Candelaria

Most of its buildings have been conserved and restored; they are historical patrimony declared goods of cultural interest. La Candelaria has the largest city activity with approximately 500 institutions, museums, historical sites, centers of investigation, schools and universities, becoming its main attraction.
