Artistic expression is an integral part of the Sonesta experience. This is evidenced in our architecture, décor, food presentation and most notably, our world-class art collection. The Sonesta Art Collection consists of more than 7,000 contemporary paintings, sculptures, original prints and tapestries by both emerging and established artists such as Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Sol Lewitt, Jan Dibbets, Malcolm Morley and Carl Palazzolo. In select Sonesta locations, guided walking tours are offered to enhance the appreciation of the art and to provide background on the artists themselves.
"For hoteliers, original artworks can distinguish a hotel from rivals and create the type of atmosphere that well-traveled, discriminating guests have come to expect. For travelers, art offers a richer experience during their stay" says USA Today Business Travel Columnist Barbara De Lollis. "The new emphasis on original art comes as the hotel industry continues trying to appeal to Generation Xers — ages 27 to 43 — who tend to have disposable income and who seek uniqueness rather than cookie-cutter predictability."
Sonesta has been a long time believer in Contemporary Art in hotels as a way to set the hotel collection apart from other chains. In fact, the interview De Lollis conducted with (then) Sonesta Executive Chairman Roger Sonnabend and his wife Joan is featured prominently in the USA Today article. Calling him a "pioneer" for beginning the hotel art collection in guest rooms and public spaces forty years ago. Today, the 7,000 piece Sonesta Art Collection is on display throughout its hotels worldwide.
Whether you are an art connoisseur or simply wish to enhance a few moments during your stay, we are hopeful our collection of art in hotels inspires you.
